doing what it takes to get thing done
I have successfully steered a broad range of project types and technologies over the years. Whether I do the work or lead a team, I’ll make sure things look and work correctly and that no balls get dropped along the way.
Past Project Examples
As part of the redesign I built this WordPress site from the ground up. A combination of plugins like the responsive Royal Slider, and coding my own custom content types brought this design to life. One of the features I am proud of is the Courtwatch Report section. It takes advantage of font-based icons and custom fields to create an easy to scan listing of ratings and reports.
Social Transformation Project
Another custom WordPress implementation that uses some powerful behind the scenes features to present easy to navigate design. There were some interesting integration and functionality challenges involved. In the end I recommended and oversaw custom development of the PauPress plugin to meet their needs.
CPRS Van Email Templates
Our friends at Agentic contacted us to design and develop a suite of email templates to match their redesign for this trade association. Hand coded, commented and tested, their new templates helped ensure design consistency. I augmented my flexible designs with the right code for easy editing. And key areas were easy to re-purpose, so they needed to keep track of fewer templates.
Aspen Institute Newsletter
When the Aspen Institute wanted a makeover for their newsletter they weren’t just looking for a new design. They wanted a whole new relationship with this piece of their communication strategy.
Working with their internal teams I designed and then coded a whole new system. By making sure to understand the needs of each person that worked on the email I was able to set up the code so that it didn’t require an HTML expert to create the first draft for review. And with careful coding and testing we also made sure the design stayed intact month after month. A couple iterations were needed to find the best mix for both their content producers and production staff. But now it all works – and it’s beautiful from every angle.
I designed and implemented a series of custom pages for the Development Department at the Aspen Institute. Working within their Drupal 7 site, I re-purposed some block regions to set this area apart while staying on theme. Understanding the code and CSS allowed me to direct their Drupal team to update site-wide styles to stay in sync. Templates provided for graphic elements allow Aspen staff to keep things up to date with their ambitious campaigns.
